For Beginners/Intermediate Writers

The best personal essays are those that demonstrate how unique experiences can be viewed through a universal lens. This 2-session workshop is designed for people who want to write powerful, interesting, and thoughtful essays about their personal lives and experience. Through reading, drafting, revising, and examining responses to their own written work, students will come to understand themselves better as writers and get to the heart of the stories they want and need to tell. As a two week workshop, this class can springboard into longer or deeper work, or can stand alone as a time to reflect, analyze and most of all WRITE.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Francesca Grossman is an author and an expert in Creative Non-Fiction and Personal Narrative writing. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Brain, Child Magazine, The Manifest Station, Ed Week, Drunken Boat, and Word Riot, among others. She runs writing retreats and workshops internationally and co-lead an annual intensive workshop at The Harvard Graduate School of Education in personal essay writing. She has a BA and MA from Stanford University and a doctorate from Harvard University in education. Her book, NOT WEAKNESS; Navigating the Culture of Chronic Pain, has been critically acclaimed and has won international awards. Her comprehensive instructional manual, WRITING WORKSHOP; A Guide to Creating a Culture of Useful Feedback, is used in universities and writing workshops all over the world.
